Ukraine calls on women to stop smoking

In Ukraine, the International Day of not smoking marked the beginning of the campaign, calling for women smokers to quit smoking. The campaign is called "smoke-free."

The campaign was launched with the support of the Ministry of Family, Youth and Sports. Its main actor was the Coalition of NGOs "For a smoke-free Ukraine."

The campaign kicked off at the press conference, which invited the public and public figures of Ukraine. His opinions expressed actors, sportsmen, representatives of show business. There were also Olympic champion swimmer Denis Silantyev, and Honored Artist of Ukraine Grigory Chapkis, and choreographer, and television's leading Vlad Yama. Came to the conference television presenter Andrey Domanski and People's Artist of Ukraine Yevhen Paperny.

At a press conference announced the results of a representative sociological survey, which was held in October 2009 by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology. His theme was the ratio of male to female smoking. The study confirmed: men Ukrainians belong to the female smoking negatively. And this attitude significantly affects the reduction in the number of smokers. If in June 2005, smoked 20% of women, in October 2009, this figure approached 13%. Apparently, women were the most sensitive audience, which responded to the changing attitudes towards smokers in society. Behind these changes are measures to free workplaces and public places smoke, increasing tobacco excise taxes and much more.

The press conference with concern expressed that the marketing efforts of tobacco producers in Ukraine are becoming more aggressive. Most marketing companies openly aimed at young women who have yet to motherhood.

Two-thirds of smokers from the world's total number of live in underdeveloped countries. Unfortunately, Ukraine, even in this neighborhood is one of the leaders. Medical statistics has sounded the alarm: smoking has become a real epidemic, which leads to serious loss of human life.

Representatives of the Ministry of Family, Youth and Sports said that their department maintains an active role in all matters that relate to tighten control over the sale of tobacco products. At present, for consideration at the Verkhovna Rada a bill on amending some laws of Ukraine ", which was developed by the Ministry. It expanded the list of those places continue to be prohibited to sell and consume cigarettes and other tobacco products. According to representatives of the Ministry, to really effectively address the issue could be when the government and society will come to a common understanding of problems and make decisions for her best efforts.

Press conference ended with a theatrical act, which took place on the square before the "Ukrainian House". The plot of The Dance of Death in Pink "is simple: the dancers in costumes of the death of pink clearly showed their dance: death already in Ukraine, though disguised in pink glamorous clothes. The purpose of a street protest was to draw public attention to the campaign.
